National Pet Obesity Awareness Day

Posted on 16th Oct 2009 @ 10:47 AM

October 14th is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day. Is your pet one of them? The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) estimates half of the dogs and cats in the United States are overweight or obese. That’s 33 million dogs and 51 million cats, according to APOP. An easy way to find out is to run your hand through your pet’s body. If you can feel the ribs and spine without pressing your finger too hard that is a good sign. If you have a shot hair dogs, you can look at your dog from the bird’s eyes view. If you can see the waist section easily, your dog is in good shape. For furry dogs and cats, you can run your hand through the back of your pet and if you can feel the waist, your pet is healthy however if you can see the ribs line up like a xylophone, your pet may be under weight but that is a whole new topic.
